Sign Up for a Community Solar Garden
Save Money on Energy Bills
Thank you for your interest in community solar! Cooperative Energy Futures (CEF) exists to ensure Minnesotans have access to clean, affordable, and renewable energy, developed by community members, designed to serve community needs, and owned by members to build community wealth for all while addressing historic injustice. This includes empowering communities across Minnesota through clean, local, and member-owned energy solutions.
Together with members, we create cooperatively owned energy solutions that work even if you can’t invest upfront or don’t own a home—because if our solutions work for those facing the greatest barriers to benefitting from clean energy, they will work for everyone.
Filling out this form is the first step to sign up for a community solar garden. Outreach staff from CEF will follow up with the next steps to size your subscription and enroll you as a member of Cooperative Energy Futures.

Xcel Electric Account information
In order to send you the Subscriber Agency Agreement to get the subscription process started, we must have your Xcel Energy account number.
If your electric utility is not listed, we cannot currently provide you a subscription. This is due to the fact that Xcel Energy is, unfortunately, the only electric utility required by state law to work with other companies and cooperatives, like Cooperative Energy Futures, to offer community solar as a renewable energy option.
If your subscription will be for a home or rental unit, select "Residential". If it is for a business or organization, you can select the service type you have, or leave it blank if you don't know.
Low and Moderate Income (LMI) Eligibility
Why does CEF need this information?
The new State of Minnesota LMI Accessible Community Solar Program requires us to verify subscriber Area Median Income (AMI) Levels and household size in order to meet minimum thresholds for low and moderate income subscribers. The new law also requires Xcel Energy to credit community solar subscribers below 150% AMI at a higher rate than subscribers above 150% AMI.
Using the county you live in and your household size, go to THIS TABLE to determine if your household gross annual income (before taxes are taken out) is lower than 80% AMI, in between 80 and 150% AMI, or over 150% AMI.
